From time to time, there are small lots of wine in our cellar that are so special they deserve to have their individual stories told.
We are excited to launch a new and exciting direction for Mayacamas Vineyards, the first wine in our ongoing _____åSpecial Bottling____? series _____± the 2013 _____åTerraces____? Chardonnay.
In the very early 1950______s, the owners of Mayacamas, Jack and Mary Taylor, terraced a steep, South-facing hillside 2,000 feet above the Napa Valley and planted Wente Clone Chardonnay. This beautiful vineyard, with its clear view over San Pablo Bay to the San Francisco skyline, was aptly named _____åThe Terraces.____? For more than 60 years, this site provided some of the finest Chardonnay grapes in the Napa Valley.
The old vines at the Terraces had a long and productive life, but due to severely waning health the 2013 Harvest was their last. The small amount of wine they produced was of exceptional quality, character, and intensity _____± it clearly stood out as something special.
To celebrate this special story and others like it in the future, we have created the Special Bottling program. These wines will be produced only occasionally and always in very small quantities. Each of these wines will only be made once.
The 2013 _____åTerraces____? is a classic Mayacamas Chardonnay, marked by bracing acidity, and focused, concentrated flavors of Asian pear, orange blossoms, wet stones and lime candy. It will age effortlessly for years to come.
